About the artist, photographer, poet, writer, designer…. Doug Auld
People have described him as a Renaissance man.
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia of the internet states, “When someone is called a Renaissance Man today, it is meant that he does not just have broad interests or a superficial knowledge of several fields, but rather that his knowledge is profound, and often that he also has proficiency or accomplishments [15][16][17][18] in (at least some of) these fields, and in some cases even at a level comparable to the proficiency or the accomplishments of an expert.[19] It is important to note, however, that some dictionaries use the term Renaissance man as roughly synonym of polymath in the first meaning, to describe someone versatile with many interests or talents”. [21]
His art career started at an early age and he was never without a pad or pencil. It officially commenced in first grade as he created a piece of art work that was selected to be shown around the world in a group exhibit. He sold his first set of cartoons by the time he was eight.
In junior high as well as high school he had numerous exhibits within the public school arena as well as several awards from the “Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards”. During his senior year at high school he won two blue ribbons and three gold keys in the Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards Competition. Three of his pieces went on to compete in the national awards in New York.
“Scholastic Art Awards: For more than 50 years the Boston Globe has sponsored the Massachusetts Scholastic Art Awards, an art competition that pulls in some of the most inspired and talented artwork from across the state, all done by middle and high school
students. The competition awards Gold and Silver Keys to the best pieces in categories such as drawing, sculpting, photo and digital imagery. The Boston Globe awards thousands of dollars in scholarships during the competition each year.” Artists for Humanity” - Boston Globe Foundation”.
He was also a High School All American football player while at Weymouth High in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Upon completion of his fall senior football season, he had numerous full scholarships offered to him to play for many colleges and universities. The choice came down to two schools, those that had the nation’s best art programs.
Following his dream to study art and play major college football, he went on to major within the Visual and Performing Arts School at Syracuse University. He was a lettering member of the Syracuse University Football Team and selected to the first team, All-East, his senior year.
During his four years of college, he had an independent studio at the University and was involved in several exhibits as a university art student. He also was allowed during his senior year an independent study, which ultimately led to his design and the creation of a unique memorial monument, a freestanding bell tower, which honors in its design the present location and the branch of the armed services in which its dedicator served. Located in Weymouth, Massachusetts, it is dedicated to James Stephen Baird, 1st Lieutenant, United States Air Force who gave his life for his country in Vietnam.
After a number of honors in football and playing in the nationally known Blue Gray Game and receiving try out offers from several Professional Teams, he was led to teaching and coaching in Waltham, Massachusetts. He went on to tenure teaching art from grade school to high school at the Waltham Public Schools. In addition, he also taught Adult Evening Classes offered in Waltham. During this time he participated in numerous art related events and exhibits as well as creating hundreds of caricatures for and of the students of Waltham.
He went on to start his own Advertising and Design Firm where the firm was recognized for quality and design participating in all forms of media from print to radio to television. One of the pieces created during the firms existence was honored as a PPA Award as part of Publishing Excellence.
After several years consulting nationally on creative entrepreneurial and business efforts, the experiences of the highs and lows of success, trials and losses within business, and personal issues, life was good and yet too often a struggle. The light of an artist career was barely visible.
He set out to be what he was, an artist. With a re-born effort to integrate new technologies and traditional methods, he again saw how art affects life; how art affects your outlook; how it breeds positive emotions and how it heals.
In recent years, he also wrote hundreds of pieces of poetry many of which were published on the net and had an e-mail following of his poems called “doug’s daily dose”. Plans are in place to possibly publish a coffee table poetry book for men from many of the previous published and unpublished poems. You will see several of his poems through this web publication.
Presently he is totally involved in creating and exploring the wonders of digital painting, integrating photography and digital art, and creating fine art pieces, some of which are in other media including new technologies. Plans are to exhibit wherever his art takes him, especially on Cape Cod and throughout New England, as well as expand his works exposure through the internet.
Most recently as a collectable rising artist, he has been receiving invitations from prestigious world competitions for his works.
In addition, he was awarded his “Internet Marketing Professional” Certification from Web CEO University. CLICK On the Icon on left.
Above all he truly realizes that all or anything he accomplishes, “He has done for me!”
From The Artist:
Artist, as far back as I can remember, is what I have always wanted to be. Having grown up living, breathing, and being encouraged to explore and develop the talents God had given me, as well as living in a bubble, I started on a quest without even knowing it. I ate, slept and drank it along with sports twenty-four / seven. In the beginning, I was so fortunate to have great people encourage my efforts. Coming from a home without great monetary resources, having a number of athletic scholarship opportunities was a way that provided a platform to develop my talent, insight and abilities as an artist.
An Artist’s life is ever changing. After leaving the creative environment of one of the country’s best visual and performing schools and not knowing how to obtain my quest, I was fortunate to obtain a teaching and coaching position. Getting married and pursuing extensions of my quest in the advertising and graphics field presented years of growth in interpersonal and communication areas. The great highs and low lows of success, trial and loss within the business community made life good during some occasions and a struggle much of the time with the light of a once promising career in art barely visible. This along with an often non encouraging environment left one to wonder just what was what.
Opportunity presented itself in a most unusual way and the flame had a flicker once again. As some time past from a daunting personal situation, I found myself face to face with creating quality original works that truly impacted the recipients. My own experiences with death, grief and bereavement, along with the struggles of life, business, family and marriage relationships allowed me insights into my art. It had rekindled my childhood and lifelong passion to be who I always was, an “artist”.
While integrating with a new reborn outlook toward my effort with digital photography, computers, scanners, printers and new technologies as well as more traditional methods, I found once again the remarkable way art affects life. I know what it is to have things torn from you, lose those you care for, be misled, be lied to, be maligned, and live without honor or encouragement. I know what it is to suffer for your own choices or to have others make choices that are wrong before God. Yet, I have seen how art can heal. How it affects your daily life, your outlook and gives positives emotions. It can evoke and help the most negative individuals. I have seen and experience how art can reach your very soul and move you.
My goal and quest is to produce great work, “paint-tings”, and give the reasons and insight into my producing them. I truly hope you will find what you are looking for in these works or these works will find you. I know in doing so I will gain satisfaction, insight, and encouragement as well as a living. Above all I truly realize that all or anything I accomplish, “He has done for me!”
I hope you will participate with me, give me positive feedback, insight, understanding and eventually become a patron, knowing you have helped in my quest and letting me know I have helped you. Thank you for coming along. Please let me hear from you.
Most Cordially, Doug Auld "the artist"
